The Econopocalypse is Nigh
Feb. 13th, 2009 01:53 pmI just received my 5498 IRA contribution form for taxes, and it's very depressing. I just calculated that my IRA has seriously fallen below the amount that I've contributed to it in the six years that I've had it. In other words, if I had put the same money in a checking account with no interest and didn't touch it, I would have more money saved for retirement than I do now.
Yes, I know that the market will (presumably) have an upturn between now and when I retire. Yes, I know my investment agent says that I shouldn't be so concerned over "temporary" fluctuation...although I feel a bit nervous when "temporary" is about 4 years of slow growth, and a decline overall. And it's still unsettling that I haven't made any real headway.
*Sigh*
