Disappointment With Sun
Feb. 9th, 2009 10:56 pmToday I received yet *another* update from Sun for Java on my Windows box -- I know I just updated within the past day or two. I'm used to them trying to get me to install various toolbars like Google and Yahoo, and it always annoys me how they automatically check the teeny tiny box so that if you're not paying attention you get the toolbar anyways. But today they went too far: it was an MSN toolbar.

This was after reading their fun little modification to their most recent EULA:
What next? Bell Labs insisting that all LAME encoders stop using C because they could be used by people who haven't purchased the rights to use MP3 codecs? And here I thought Sun was moving towards the open source route.
It's a scary thought that creators of languages may one day decide what software can and cannot be coded with it...

"Either party may terminate this Agreement immediately should any Software become, or in either party's opinion be likely to become, the subject of a claim of infringement of any intellectual property right."Am I misreading this, or does that essentilly say that if I'm using Java to code something that might even *potentially* infringe on someone else's work, they can yank my rights to code it in Java?
